"Orson showcases the best of local Bay Area foods,
coupled with some impressive culinary science."
~ Thomas Brown, UpTake, February 2009
On two recent visits, I was by turns bedazzled with whimsical presentations of traditional favorites, given a crash course in chemistry, and pleasantly startled by playful little surprises tucked away in unexpected places. Come and experience what executive chef and owner Elizabeth Falkner is doing South of Market. Expect deliciously satisfying dishes showcasing the best of contemporary California cuisine, with a touch of surprise and a modern edge. From creative cocktails in a welcoming lounge to witty desserts shared between neighbors and friends, Orson brings together the vibrancy and creativity of San Francisco.
"I'm a chef first," says Falkner, the owner of Citizen Cake restaurant and patisserie in Hayes Valley, a popular contender on "Iron Chef America" and the author of Demolition Desserts. "Last year was part of the evolution of opening a second restaurant and expanding the production side of the bakery. Now I'm really enjoying being back in the kitchen."
With a team including sous chefs Elgin Espiritu and Josh Capone, manager Kristen Capella, and business partner Sabrina Riddle, Falkner is bringing Orson back to her original vision, focusing on great food that's both exciting and approachable. And with a new program of digital and video art installations in conjunction with Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, this stylish restaurant, bar, and lounge is uniting art and design with exciting cuisine and a lively social scene.
